Taiwan CTCI Wins Public Construction Golden Quality Award, Excellence Level, for Aiding Taiwan’s Energy Transition

TAIPEI, December 26, 2023- CTCI is pleased to announce that it is a recipient of the Public Construction Commission (PCC)’s 23rd Public Construction Golden Quality Award, the highest honor in public construction in Taiwan, for the CPC Third LNG Receiving Terminal Storage Tank EPC Project that CTCI jointly completed with Kawasaki Heavy Industries. For this project, CTCI received the excellence level award in both facility design and constructor categories. Ming-Shyan Lee, President of CTCI Corp., received the commendation on behalf of the company during the ceremony which took place today.

Located in Taoyuan’s Guanyin District, the two LNG tanks- each with a capacity of 160,000 m3- are the largest tanks ever built in Taiwan. CTCI drew on its experience from the Taichung Terminal Phase 2 LNG Tank project and improved the tank’s base slab design, increased the welding reliability, and improved the quality control standards. Through various methods, the project has helped reduce 11,200 tons in greenhouse gas emissions. One method is to adjust the mass concrete’s composition ratio by using compliant green materials, which minimizes the consumption of cement. The other method is to apply the nitrogen piston flow technique for tank drying, which hugely reduces the consumption of liquid nitrogen.
The construction process was met with serious challenges, including insufficient work space, strong northeastern monsoon, covid-19, and labor shortage across the nation. Despite these difficulties, CTCI optimized the construction work flow and overcame the challenges, eventually reaching mechanical completion on time, with excellent quality and a safety record of 3 million man-hours without a lost time injury.
With lower greenhouse gas emissions than coal, LNG is an important fuel for electricity generation that can help nations transition toward net zero emissions. CTCI is currently the only company in Taiwan that can carry out engineering, procurement, and construction services for LNG terminal and gas-fired power plant projects, enjoying a 75% share in the gas-fired power plant market. By building upon the experience and expertise in gas-fired power plants, LNG terminals, energy-from-waste plants, solar power plants, and offshore wind farms, CTCI will aggressively diversify its energy business portfolio by tapping into the decarbonized power and energy sector, as well as developing the hydrogen and CCUS technologies, so that it can contribute to the global sustainable development.
