Taiwan CTCI Receives Golden Thumb Award for Exemplary Public-Private Partnership Green Engineering Project
TAIPEI, December 15, 2023- CTCI, a leading engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services provider in Taiwan, is honored with the prestigious "21st Golden Thumb Award." The "Golden Thumb Award” is often recognized as the Oscar of the private participation field. This is an accomplishment by a special purpose company, "HDEC-CTCI-Linhai Corporation," for the implementation of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project of the Kaohsiung City Linhai Sewage Treatment Plant and Effluent Reuse Build-Transfer-Operate Plant. This project garnered an Excellent Award for its outstanding contributions.
Linhai Water Resources Center is the nation's pioneering water plant that combines two processes- sewage treatment and water reclamation- to supply 33,000 CMD of reclaimed water to the Kaohsiung Linhai Industrial Park. Its remarkable establishment positions Kaohsiung as a demonstrative city in Taiwan with sustainable water resources, which effectively reduces the local water stress.
The project team has tackled multiple technical issues during the project implementation. Specifically, the sewage pipes in service had to be connected, posing a major technical challenge. The project team not only pioneered related engineering design in Taiwan, but also overcame the challenge of complex underground pipes and MRT tunnel laying work despite the pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic. The award review committee was impressed by CTCI’s construction abilities as well as the operation and management teamwork. The standardization and the operational procedures significantly reduced energy consumption, conserved resources, and improved treatment efficiency. The installation of solar panels and wind power facilities enabled 150 kWh of power to be generated daily for internal use. Additionally, the project provides secondary reclaimed water free of charge for plant watering and road cleaning, thus ensuring the sustainable use of water resource.
CTCI has extensive and excellent experience in wastewater treatment, including civil sewage, industrial wastewater, and high-tech wastewater reclamation, for over 40 years. Its outstanding service quality has made it a vital partner designated by domestic and international clients. In recent years, it has successfully expanded the business by carrying out projects such as the Kaohsiung Fengshan River and Kaohsiung Linhai Water Reclamation Plants, which collectively provide 78,000 CMD of reclaimed water, surpassing the quality of tap water and reducing upfront water treatment costs for industries. Besides, the TSMC Southern Taiwan Science Park Water Reclamation Plant is a global landmark project as the first water reclamation plant that regenerates industrial wastewater and reuse it in the semiconductor manufacturing process.
