Taiwan CTCI, the Guardian of a Sustainable Earth, Wins Kuokuang Power Plant Renewal EPC Project with Green Engineering

TAIPEI, Feb. 25, 2025 – CTCI Corporation, Taiwan’s leading provider of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, announced today that it has been awarded the Advanced Combined Cycle Gas Power Units Project for the Kuo Kuang Power Plant in collaboration with its consortium partner, Siemens Energy. Located at Guishan district, Taoyuan, the project continues the successful collaboration between CTCI and Siemens Energy, following their work on the 2021 Sun Ba Combined Cycle Power Plant Phase 2 Project. With a total renewed installed capacity of 1,200 MW, the power unit will generate approximately 7,000 MWh of electricity annually and is slated for completion by the end of 2028.

This renovation project at Kuo Kuang Power Co., Ltd. aligns with the government's energy transition guidelines. The upgraded plant will supply electricity to Taiwan Power Company. To support the net-zero goal, the plant adopts a high-efficiency gas-fired unit, integrating advanced energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies along with photovoltaic systems. These initiatives allow the plant to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 60% annually compared to coal fired power plant. In response to the global shift toward decarbonization, the plant uses natural gas for power generation to decrease the carbon emission and is equipped with advanced gas turbines capable of hydrogen co-firing with natural gas. This technology allows for the potential future replacement of part of the natural gas with hydrogen fuel, further reducing carbon emissions and advancing the adoption of hydrogen energy.
CTCI Corporation has an extensive track record in EPC projects for power plants in Taiwan and Southeast Asia, covering combined cycle, thermal, nuclear, and cogeneration plants. Leveraging the global trend toward renewable energy, its parent company, CTCI Group, actively supports the government’s energy diversification policies by providing stable power in renewable sectors such as solar power, biomass, and offshore wind power. Going forward, CTCI will remain committed to building green engineering that benefits both the economy and the environment, partnering with global allies to achieve its ESG vision as the “Guardian of Sustainable Earth.”
