Taiwan CTCI Breaks Ground on Large-Output Public Seawater Desalination Plant in Taiwan, Marking New Milestone in Tech-Embedded Water Production
HSINCHU, May 16, 2025- Taiwan’s leading engineering, procurement, and construction services provider CTCI Group held a ground-breaking ceremony today for Hsinchu Seawater Desalination Plant in northern Taiwan. Slated to be completed by 2027, with trial operations done by 2028, the plant is expected to produce 100,000 tons of fresh water per day, ensuring uninterrupted water supply for the high-tech industry and daily consumption.
As part of Taiwan government’s “Enhancement of Water Production by Technology” policy, this major public infrastructure located near Nanliao Fishing Harbor is among the eight large-output (exceeding 10,000 tons per day) seawater desalination plants to be built across the nation, and has been given construction priority. A team involving CTCI Corporation, ECOVE Environment Services Corp.—an affiliated company of CTCI Group— France-based SUEZ, and Hung Hua Construction will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, project management, and a 15-year period of operation and maintenance of this plant. The high-quality desalinated water will ultimately feed into the city water network, becoming a diversified water source that helps Hsinchu area stay resilient against the water supply challenges posed by climate change.
With over four decades of experience in water-related projects, CTCI has sensed a need for sustainable water resources and therefore ramped up its effort in constructing and operating water reclamation plants as well as seawater desalination plants. Hsinchu seawater desalination plant is CTCI’s latest key project following the success of five end-to-end water resources center projects completed by the company, which covered investment, construction, and operation.
Employing Green Engineering expertise, CTCI will adopt cutting-edge desalination technologies and optimize the processes, so that the seawater desalination plant may help save up to 17% of electricity and cut up to 16% of greenhouse gases. With a firm commitment in becoming “the most reliable global engineering services provider,” CTCI continues to join forces with its partners in strengthening the sustainable use of water resources and the competitiveness of industries.
