CTCI SDGs Action

Link Three Core Competencies with SDGs

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) proposes that the engineering industry shall make efforts to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). As a global multinational company in the construction and engineering industry, CTCI not only actively pays attention to the UN's SDGs, but also Incorporates the SDGs into its operation strategy, linking with the development and strategic goals of various businesses. To nurture ESG into becoming an important element of CTCI's sustainable development, Group Chairman Yu gives two directions. First of all, to "advocate Total Participation in ESG Implementation, so that every employee understands the culture of daily operation being CSR." Secondly, "the three core competencies of CTCI: green engineering, circular economy, and smart plant, are integrated with iEPC to link closely with SDGs." Through these two strategic approaches, CTCI hopes that colleagues can be proud of the fact that the work contributes to the planet and country, enabling CTCI to exert greater influence in the world.

CTCI joined the "Taiwan Alliance for Net Zero Emission, " "Taiwan Net Zero Emissions Association, " and "Taiwan US CCUS Industry Promotion Alliance, " and work with the Industrial Technology Research Institute to promote the development of hydrogen energy, energy storage, and CCS, strengthen the partnership with leading net zero companies in Taiwan, so that the company can provide customers with net zero EPC value services and work with CTCI's supplier net zero alliance to expand its influence.

   Biodiversity

Deeply cultivate water resources, practice circular economy, and successfully expand from the reuse of industrial wastewater and urban sewage to the regeneration water in the high-tech electronics industry based on the results of wastewater reuse

In engineering projects, equal emphasis is placed on the ecological conservation of project sites. Ecological professionals are involved in collecting, investigating, and analyzing ecological data, and they assist in integrating the concept of ecological conservation into the project

Continuous monitoring of the ecology and environment serves as the foundational data for setting up and planning environmentally friendly measures in the surrounding area

In the planning, priority will be given to selecting native tree species that combine windbreak, soil and water conservation, and aesthetic enhancement. Natural construction methods are adopted to create habitats. Continuous monitoring of the ecology and environment serves as the foundational data for setting up and planning environmentally friendly measures in the surrounding area

   Talent development

Improve the knowledge and skills of green engineering through the internal “CTCI University” and the external “CTCI Learning” to enrich employees' careers with professionalism and ability

Listen carefully to employees’ voices, provide diversified welfare policies, and jointly create a gender equal, diverse and inclusive working environment

Create a safe and healthy working environment, integrate the concept of diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI), equal pay for equal work, no gender differences, provide breastfeeding room and maternal health lectures, handle multi-national cultural tour activities, flexible working hours policy

   Social Care

Long-term cooperation with public welfare organizations to support rural children and people in need

Long-term support for social welfare groups, becoming the first partner of Carrefour's "Food Bank" food collection station in the company, and working with social welfare groups such as Children Are Us Foundation, Genesis Social Welfare Foundation, and Syin-Lu Social Welfare Foundation to provide employment services

Establish the "Group Health Care Platform" system, handle blood donation activities in the north and south of the group, and employee
assistance program EAP; encourage employees to participate in sports clubs, which is beneficial to physical and mental health

Cooperate with industry and academia to continue to deepen sustainable education and expand social influence; participate in 53 student associations

Be talented and applicable, respect diversity, demonstrate tolerance, cocreate and share an international outlook, and respect and protect basic human rights

Long-term promotion of green projects and implemented a number of domestic and foreign environmental protection and energy-saving projects, such as steam and electricity symbiosis, waste incineration power generation, wastewater treatment and other projects, actively responded to global carbon reduction issues

Promote the green new life movement among employees, promote green consumption, and promote the beauty of the environment and society

Provide customers with full life cycle net-zero EPC value engineering services to move towards net-zero. CTCI Education Foundation will become an NGO observer recognized by the UNFCCC in 2022 and can subsequently speak out for Taiwan internationally.

A third-party impartial unit is entrusted to establish a reporting website. If there is any unfair or unjust behavior, or failure to handle it appropriately, or any situation that may violate laws, regulations, or professional standards, we can report it directly.

As an international turnkey engineering company, it has combined with about 40 related companies in more than 10 countries around the world to establish joint contracting relationships based on expertise and complete the industrial value chain; CTCI Education Foundation has become a UNFCCC observer to connect nternational partners to measure capabilities; hold global supplier conference to gather supply chain influence

Drive for Net Zero

Responding to the United Nation's and global initiatives in reducing carbon emissions and achieving net zero emissions, CTCI, in October, 2021, joined Taiwan Alliance for Net Zero Emission (TANZE), which was founded by Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) together with 26 leading Taiwanese enterprises in various sectors. John T. Yu, CTCI Group Chairman, was elected as executive director and Michael Yang, CTCI Group Vice Chairman, was elected as director. TANZE was established to assist the government in achieving carbon neutrality in Taiwan by calling on enterprises and organizations to practice net zero emissions. It aims to guide all social sectors with actions, raise awareness of the public on net zero emissions and function as a tripartite policy platform, promoting dialogue among companies, NGOs, and the government, speeding up realization of net zero emission vision across Taiwan. As a member of TANZE, CTCI will join the efforts to push forward net zero emissions and promises to work with global supply chain toward Net Zero EPC.

CTCI joined the SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) in 2022 with its promise to set a net zero reduction target of 1.5°C in line with the SBTi, with an annual reduction target of 4.2% from 2020 to 2030, and a total 45% reduction by 2030; annual reduction target of 2.9% from 2030 to 2050, and achieve net zero by 2050. In June of the same year, the "CTCI Group Net Zero Oath Ceremony" was held, where senior executives of the group solemnly took the oath on behalf of all colleagues, demonstrating their determination to achieve their goals; In October, CTCI signed the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) to expression our support by identifying potential climate risks and opportunities for management to reduce risks and seize opportunities. The first TCFD report was voluntarily disclosed and published in 2023.

Total Participation in ESG to Practice Net Zero EPC

To make sustainable development and transformation our group's competency and DNA, CTCI has initiated and continuously advanced the plan of Total Participation CSR Excellence Practice since 2018, having the concept of sustainable operation deeply rooted in the group. In addition to holding monthly sustainability and net zero improvement meetings for each business operation of the Group, when there are internal meetings with more than 5 people, ESG Moment needs to be arranged before the meeting to share ESG concepts and sustainability knowledge. CTCI also held micro film competition to inspire its colleagues to break through innovation, pursue sustainability, and work together towards sustainable growth!

In 2022, the CTCI Group ESG Award for Excellence in Sustainability was organized by the CTCI Education Foundation (CTCI EF), a consortium entity, and the CTCI Group's ESG and Net Zero Team. This award encourages Group's colleagues to propose diverse sustainable influence ideas, and through the "SDGs Empowerment Workshop," selected colleagues can further strengthen the content of the proposal, explore the impact and diffusion benefits of the proposal, and build links with SDGs. Through the above activities, CTCI had a total number of participants over 200 people to promote a sustainable corporate culture.
