"Zhishan Splendor - Shilin Cultural Festival" Kicks Off with Vibrant Music: CTCI Joins Forces with "Urban Explorers" to Safeguard Biodiversity
The "Zhishan Splendor - Shilin Cultural Festival" commenced with a grand opening concert held at the lobby of CTCI on July 1st. The event marked the beginning of the two-month-long festival with the enchanting melodies performed by the "CTCI Philharmonic Guitar Club" and the "Bailing Elementary School Recorder Ensemble." Since its inaugural event in 2010, CTCI has continuously sponsored and participated in the festival as a prominent local enterprise, making it one of the most highly anticipated annual cultural celebrations.

This year's festival showcases a diverse array of activities, including multiple music feasts. Moreover, the Zhishan Cultural and Ecological Garden is hosting a special exhibition showcasing common wildlife specimens found in Taipei, while sharing the results of ecological surveys conducted in various art and cultural venues in Taipei. The aim is to provide the public with a deeper understanding of Taipei's rich biodiversity while immersing themselves in the historical charm of Shilin.

Following the captivating opening concert, Mr. Ming-Huang Li, Director of Zhishan Cultural and Ecological Garden, presented the research findings of the "Urban Explorers Biodiversity Collaboration Project," in which CTCI also participated and sponsored.

Mr. Ting-Chuang Li, CEO at CTCI Group Shared Services, expressed that the company is committed to being a "Guardian of Sustainable Earth" and fulfilling its corporate social responsibility. He expressed great delight in collaborating on this project with Zhishan Cultural and Ecological Garden and the nine major cultural exhibition halls, collectively striving for ecological conservation. By actively involving the public— from participating in surveys to implementing conservation plans— they aim to safeguard Taipei City's biodiversity.

CTCI is playing an active role to conserve biodiversity. In addition to the "Zhishan Splendor - Shilin Cultural Festival," CTCI proactively promotes the "CTCI Biodiversity Project - Green Water for Vitality," which integrates its core business, operating bases, and local cultural partners. Starting with a comprehensive understanding of water resources, rivers, wetlands, and the environmental conditions of each area, it takes action to protect natural resources and gradually expand its social influence.

CTCI leverages "green engineering" to create a win-win situation for the economy and the environment. For example, the "Fengshan Water Resources Center" project produces 45,000 tons of reclaimed water daily for industrial use while also providing 20,000 tons of discharged water to the nearby Dadong Wetland Park's ecological pond, contributing to the preservation of biological habitats. Furthermore, the TSMC South Science Park Reclaimed Water Plant and the Fengshan and Linhai Water Resources Centers not only supply reclaimed water and related technical support but also develop environmental education programs, actively promoting biodiversity conservation in neighboring communities and schools, and collaborating with external organizations to implement conservation efforts throughout Taiwan.

Looking ahead, as a pioneer of sustainability in the domestic engineering industry, CTCI will continue to fulfill its corporate social responsibility. Through the practice of "company-wide ESG," the company will utilize its core business to foster "green engineering" and act as an invisible force driving the public towards embracing a "green lifestyle," all for the purpose of working towards a better and sustainable future.

CTCI, a Guardian of Sustainable Earth, Spearheads Green Offices Campaign
On the invitation of Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), CTCI's Group Shared Services CEO Ting-Chuang Li attended the "Press Conference and Forum on Green Offices" held by the EPA on February 10. During the event, CEO Li shared CTCI's approaches to fulfilling the 2050 net-zero targets through "ESG engagement of all staff" and seeing itself as "a guardian of sustainable Earth."

The "Green Offices" program is part of the government's crucial strategies in transforming the nation to net zero by 2050. CTCI is among the first role-model companies invited by the EPA to talk about the ways offices can become greener and call upon the industry to join the green offices campaign.

CEO Li noted that CTCI has taken a multi-approach to cut carbon emissions. To make CTCI's offices greener, CTCI makes an effort to save energy and cut resources utilization at source, reduce the amount of plastic materials used, reduce the amount of waste, and make green procurement. CTCI's headquarters building has therefore saw 7.5% reduction of power consumption in 2022 against the previous year, which is equivalent to cutting down 155 tons of CO2e emissions.

With regard to making engineering services greener, CTCI laid out three approaches: "green technology," "green contracting," and "green investment." Based on these principles, CTCI strives to carry out projects that are beneficial both economically and environmentally in any part of the world. By working with its partners and suppliers in the provision of "net zero EPC valued services," CTCI continues to help clients reach their energy-saving and emissions reduction targets. Between 2019 and 2021, the amount of carbon emissions that has been cut down across plant construction's full life cycle on the client side reached 11,700,000 tons, thanks to CTCI's energy saving design. Total power savings reached 840,000,000 kWh, which is equivalent to the annual power consumption of 209,000 households. Total water savings reached 232,070,000 tons, which is equivalent to the water consumption of the entire Taipei City for 261 days. Total reduction of volatile organic compound reached 24,933 tons.

CTCI is committed to pushing for global sustainability through its core competencies, and has set its own 2030/2050 net zero targets. It plays an active role in campaigning by joining Taiwan Alliance for Net Zero Emissions as founding member, and supports the 1.5°C emissions reduction target laid down by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Each year, CTCI holds Taiwan Sustainable Engineering Forum, with a vision of keeping the engineering peers up-to-date with global trend in sustainability and net zero emissions.

The top recognitions that CTCI has received from institutions in Taiwan and abroad for its ESG performances include: Being selected as a component for inclusion in the Dow Jones Emerging Markets Index for 8 consecutive years, as well as being ranked first place in the global engineering industry category; received TCSA's Top 10 Domestic Companies Sustainability Model Award for 6 consecutive years; and received sustainability-related awards given by important Taiwanese media, such as CommonWealth Magazine and Global Views Monthly. CTCI also regularly takes part in ESG assessments by notable institutions, such as MSCI ESG assessment and CDP assessment.

Looking forward, CTCI will continue to play a good role as "a guardian of sustainable Earth" and contribute to global sustainability through its engineering strengths.
