Taiwan in My Eyes 120h: Sustainability On The Go

To enhance the international community’s understanding of Taiwan and to reinforce a diversified cultural communication, the CTCI Education Foundation (CTCIEF) and the Center for Corporate Sustainability (TCCS) have jointly organized a student program called "Taiwan in My Eyes 120h" since the summer of 2017. Each year, the program includes visits to five designated enterprises and six venues of the participants’ choice, as a way to allow international and domestic students to enjoy the fun of sustainable travel via this type of "sustainable" tour of Taiwan’s enterprises.

In 2022, the 8th edition of this program drew together a total of 48 domestic and international student participants, who came from 10 colleges in Taiwan and 20 nations. Together, they formed 12 teams. Due to pandemic prevention reasons, the visits went virtual for the first time this year through an online format. Throughout the five-day trip, students visited the five key enterprises and institutes, including CTCI, Taiwan High Speed Railway, First Bank, Taiwan Solar Power Plant in Tainan Salt Field, and Feng Shan Water Resource Center. At the end of the program, each team reported their thoughts in creative ways through videos and presentations, which showed their in-depth observations during the 120 hours of exploring Taiwan. They reported their findings during the program, as well as the contributions on sustainable development by governmental organizations, enterprises, and the various sectors in the society. Teams with outstanding performance are given the "CTCI Exchange Scholarships."

Eugene Chien, ambassador-at-large of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and President of the CTCI Education Foundation, pointed out that we are all a part of the global village; the world needs peace, friendship and mutual understanding. CTCIEF is supporting programs that involve cross-cultural exchanges and exploring the various sustainable aspects of Taiwan, so as to share with the global community Taiwan’s achievements in sustainable development and increase Taiwan’s visibility. Ambassador Chien also encouraged the student participants from around the world to see the five-day trip as an entry point to understanding Taiwan, and take home with some thoughts to create a sustainable future together!

Among all of the wonderful presentations, the jury selected "Cheng-Kung Team" from National Cheng Kung University as the winner of NT$100,000 "CTCI Exchange Scholarship." The runner-up is "Peng Lai Dream" from the China University of Technology and "Lumos" from National Tsing Hua University, each awarded with NT$50,000 scholarship. The third place include four teams, which are "AFA" from National Tsing Hua University, "VIP Taiwan" from National Central University, "SunnyDate #2022" from Feng Chia University, and "Achievers" from Nanhua University. Each team was awarded NT$30,000 scholarship. The fourth place includes five teams, which are "All Organic" from Tunghai University, "SET" from National Tsing Hua University, "Formosa" from Ming Chuan University, "Earth Guardians" from Feng Chia University, and "Stand by Us" from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Each team was awarded NT$20,000 scholarship. The Best Popularity Award was given to "AFA" from National Tsing Hua University, which had the highest interactions and reached out to the most number of people.

"Taiwan in My Eyes 120h" is just a beginning of sustainable education promotion. CTCIEF hopes to continue to reach out to the international community through the participation, observation, exchanges, and sharing by students from around the world, so as to let the world see Taiwan’s outstanding achievement in sustainable development.

Lastly, we would like to remind the readers that registration for "2023 the 9th edition of Taiwan in My Eyes 120h: SDGs Festival" is now open. We encourage all college students across the nation to participate!
