Group Intelligent Solutions Business CEO Hei-Nan, Yih

In recent years, with the rapid development of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), big data analysis, and information and communication technology (ICT), the wave of intelligence technology has swept the globe and changed the landscape of global industries. As various industries around the world have one after another invested in this wave of intelligence industry trends, CTCI, after many years of cultivation and active R&D efforts, has also made much advancement in this new field. CTCI has successfully expanded the scope of its engineering services from the skilled EPC turnkey project services to other areas including smart manufacturing, smart transportation, smart buildings, and smart cities, enabling itself to assist its global customers in industrial upgrading with innovative technology and heading to a new era of intelligence.

Integrating Group Resources to Develop Blueprints for the Intelligence Industry

Assembling the strength of the Group’s four affiliates starting from volume increase, quality change to capability strengthening, and gradually perfect the development blueprints for the intelligence industry.
To timely grasp and respond to the development and changes in intelligence technology, CTCI established Group Intelligent Solutions Business (GISB) in 2016 to integrate its four subsidiaries with intelligence technologies and experience (CTCI Smart Engineering Corp., CTCI Resources Engineering Inc., CTCI Advanced Systems Inc., and CTCI Advanced Systems Shanghai Inc.) and completed its strategic roadmap quickly. It also adopts a strategy of starting from volume increase, quality change to capability strengthening, and gradually perfect its development blueprints for the intelligence industry.

The so-called "volume increase" means that GISB can greatly increase its qualifications and capabilities by combining the strengths of the four affiliates, enabling itself to secure different and more diverse types of work than ever before. In the execution of these works, “quality change” will then be implemented. Using the well-acquainted existing domain knowledge within the Group and the current project services business as a foundation, and adding to it with the automation, data, and intelligence services, CTCI will successfully expand its business into four major fields: smart manufacturing, smart transportation, smart buildings, and smart cities. This is also the main goal of the development of its intelligence business. In the future, as our business scope expands, the intelligence work will be applied more extensively to collect a large number of data to build service platforms. We expect to further “deepen” various intelligence services to deliver a number of standardized and replicable intelligence solutions and platform services for use in various industries and customers, and finally expand various intelligence services to become intelligence industries to provide customers with all-round services to enhance service value.

Optimizing Innovation R&D Capabilities to Build up Intelligence Technology Strength

CTCI's inexhaustible innovation R&D capabilities are the most powerful backing for its expansion of the intelligence business.
To speed up the development pace of the intelligence business, GISB currently has set up a number of intelligence development teams, including the IIOT (Industrial Internet of Things), the Cloud, the LP WAN (Low-Power Wide-Area Network), the BIM (Building Information Modeling), and the API (Application Programming Interface) so that upwardly they can support project execution and business development and downwardly they can link to the R&D units. The Group's Innovation R&D Center is dedicated to developing various platforms based on demand to provide intelligence solutions. This innovative energy, combined with the synergy of the integrated strength of the Group's project services capabilities, has enabled us to quickly demonstrate concrete results in the development and expansion of the following four intelligence business areas.

I. Smart Manufacturing
CTCI Advanced Systems Inc. (CTCI ASI) specializes in industrial automation. Based on this specialization, combined with the Intelligent Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (iMEP) from CTCI Smart Engineering Corp. (CTCI SEC), and the Intelligent Structure Construction Method by CTCI Resources Engineering Inc. (CTCI REI), we have extended automation to make facilities and factories intelligent, enabling traditional or inefficient factories to think intelligently and in an all-round manner. The intelligence solution creates new industrial manufacturing models, achieves smart manufacturing, and successfully assists and provides counseling for the domestic petrochemical, electronics, MRT, aviation industries, etc. for intelligence upgrades.

II. Smart Transportation
Based on the existing know-hows, combined with advanced intelligence technology products and technologies, we successfully entered the field of smart transportation from the smart airport, and secured a number of projects such as smart conveying, haulage and sorting systems for baggage handling at Terminal 1 and 2 of Taoyuan International Airport, which have made it possible for the airport to handle baggage more intelligently and efficiently. The excellent implementation results also allow us to continue to secure subsequent projects, including the information and communication systems, airport runway lights, and navigation lighting systems in the Terminal 3 area. There will be more follow-up work opportunities in the future, and we will also adopt strategies such as cooperating with other international companies strategically or merging by consolidation or investing in related business partners to jointly seek future project opportunities.

III. Smart Buildings
The application of smart buildings has a very wide range, including high-tech plants, smart buildings and shopping malls at home and abroad. CTCI has more than 40 affiliates in the world, allowing us to bring into play multinational and multi-cultural characteristics, providing customers with barrier-free communication services, successfully joining hands with local affiliates, and collaborating with the domestic clients that we are familiar with to secure more high-tech facility projects overseas one after another. In the future, we will strive to actively seek for local high-tech EPC turnkey, EPsCm (engineering, procurement service, and construction management) and electronic factory high-level clean room projects as well as smart buildings and shopping malls based on the characteristics of the clients and overseas regions. In addition, CTCI's second headquarters building currently under planning incorporates a number of proprietary intelligence technologies from CTCI, including the iSP Intelligent Solution Platform, Mr. Energy 50001 Intelligent Energy Management System and BIM 7D Intelligence Maintenance System. This building, which will be built by CTCI people and will be capable of conducting its own smart thinking, will become a model of intelligence innovation, and it will be worth looking forward to.

IV. Smart Cities
The strength of professional project services and innovative R&D accumulated by CTCI for many years is indeed the best tools for building a smart city. The smart park that we are familiar with is a particular miniature of a smart city. Various diversified applications include multi-functional road lighting, human flow analysis, security control, robot and drone applications, air quality analysis and application, renewable energy and storage. CTCI’s GISB will target in this direction of development and actively develop and propose a full range of intelligence solutions.

Perfecting iSP Platform to Strengthen Intelligence Services

The mastery and application of the iSP Intelligent Solution Platform and a number of key technologies for intelligence technology enable us to deepen our service models and strengthen our competitive advantage.
Particularly worth mentioning is the iSP Intelligent Solution Platform developed by CTCI's Innovation R&D Center. This Intelligence platform for implementing CTCI's future Internet of Things (IoT) application is not only a tool for us to expand the intelligence business field, but also a key to the achievement of the development blueprints for the intelligence industry. In addition to being widely used in smart buildings, smart factories, smart parks, smart cities and other fields, it also allows us to acquire a large amount of data for analysis, and integrate various intelligence solutions through this platform, to standardize and replicate solutions and platforms for use by various industries and customers, and to achieve the development goals of turning a variety of the intelligence services into an intelligence industry. Therefore, how to perfect the development and implementation of this platform will have a far-reaching impact on the development of the CTCI's intelligence business field. This is a lofty goal and a road we must take. We will strive hard to do our best to reach it.

In addition to the development of the iSP platform, CTCI has also mastered and applied the core skill sets of intelligence technologies and expects to bring value-added services or innovative service models to the development of the intelligence industry. We have applied advanced technologies and products of the information and communication technology (ICT) to provide customers with a variety of services and applications. As a result, we have accumulated a wealth of experience and achievements. For example, the operation of the plant facility is simulated by the Digital Twin Model, and the operation of the actual plant is understood through the collection and analysis of a large number of operational data.

In addition, before the advent of 5G communication technology, the low-power wireless communication technology LoRa is a breakthrough in the development of intelligence technologies and is widely used in the information flow of the Internet of Things. We have combined the LoRa communication technology with locators to provide managers with real-time location information. Moreover, following Kaohsiung’s gas explosion incident, we have used the MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) technology to reconstruct and monitor complex underground pipelines to effectively control and monitor gas transmission conditions, so that once a leak occurs, it can be detected immediately.

Other innovative applications include: the use of 3D laser scanning combined with information on the operation of facilities, thus enabling the establishment of a digital factory to make the operation and maintenance of the plant more efficient; the use of Mr. Energy 50001 (Intelligent Energy Management System) to allow business owners to manage energy consumption through monitoring, analysis, forecasting, and adjustment to achieve energy and cost savings; the use of Mr. PSM (Process Safety Management), a digital safety and quantification tool, to provide the industry's most comprehensive and complete work safety management system; the use of ICT jacking and lifting technology to assist in the distortion correction of plant buildings, storage tanks, and public pipe racks, etc. The above-mentioned intelligence applications will help us to expand and deepen the service model and enhance our competitive advantage.

In the future international engineering market, intelligence will be a vital trend, and it will also be an opportunity for the transformation of the engineering market. In the face of this brand-new and highly promising field, there are still needs for many breakthroughs and efforts. "Innovation" is a corporate culture that CTCI takes prides in. We are confident that we will have a place in the field of intelligence technology with continuous breakthrough and innovation.
