National Chengchi University Wins First Prize at the 2023 Living Lab Project Awards
The results presentation and award ceremony of the “2023 Living Lab Project Awards” co-hosted by CTCI Education Foundation (CTCI EF) and Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) was held in June 2023 with more than 100 participants. For the first time, the event was held online. Started off with the spectacular presentations on sustainable life concepts and solutions from the top 20 teams that entered the final round. The top 20 teams competed for the Grand Award of NT$120,000 CTCI Living Scholarship and other awards, including the Circular Economy Award, Sustainable Net-Zero Awards, Best Popularity Award, and others. The total sum of scholarships given out was NT$750,000. Ambassador at Large of R.O.C. and CTCI EF Chairman Eugene Chien stated, “The ideas proposed by the top 20 teams were extremely brilliant. We would like to recognize and praise these students for being able to stand out from the 62 teams that included 248 participants from the 38 schools which took part. Faced with unknown challenges like climate change and environmental challenges, social inclusion, and economic development, the key to sustainable development lies in the ability to transform knowledge and imagination into new possibilities. The solutions developed from campuses can be applied to the society. We expect these students to keep their innovation and entrepreneurship after this event and continue to put in effort to make their proposals come true.” The judges of the final round consisted of 4 professional experts from the industry and academia who have dedicated persistent engagement on sustainability issues, including Secretary-General Tao-Tung Lin of CTCI EF, Professor Wei-Chung Wang from Center for India Studies of National Tsing Hua University, Professor Shin-Cheng Yeh from Graduate Institute of Sustainability Management and Environmental Education of National Taiwan Normal University, and Chief Sustainability Officer Joanne He from the ESG Office of CTCI. After comprehensive assessment by the judges and comparison between participating teams, Team “E-Commerce Bow Wow Chuang” from National Chengchi University won first prize and Circular Economy Award. The second place winners were Team “Pineapple Pear” from National Taipei University of Education and Team “Carbon Eater” from National Tsing Hua University. The third place winners were Team “LooPick” from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Team” Margimumu” from National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology and Team “Daxi Old is New” from National Taipei University of Business. In addition, the design concept of “Team Carbon Eater” from National Tsing Hua University was the most relevant with the Goal 13--Climate Action in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of United Nations, thus it was recognized with a special prize, the Sustainable Net-Zero Award, by the judges. This year’s “Living Lab Project Awards” abounds with innovative ideas. We hope that by holding this event, we can provide opportunities for the youth to learn and exchange opinions with one another, to ponder and solve sustainability challenges on campus, local community, society, or even national and global scale.
