2023 Teacher Training Camp for Sustainable Development Goals Successfully Concluded
As the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have become a common language among governments, global education and business communities, the integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and SDGs – known as the "ESDGs" – has become a global trend in the field of education. Following the overwhelming positive response to the "Teacher Training Camp for Sustainable Development Goals" first held in 2022, this year the CTCI Education Foundation and the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy continued to organize the event, which was conducted in a combination of virtual, physical, and online formats. The event, which attracted over 200 professors from various fields, also included a book promotion session for the Sustainable Development Goals, an educational book series authored by experts and scholars from various fields. The event was opened by a speech from Ambassador Eugene Chien, Chairman of the CTCI Education Foundation and the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy. According to Chien, education is the key to achieving sustainable development, and the main purpose of the offering training camp courses is to promote SDGs, ESD, as well as to improve teaching and learning through mutual consultation, and to increase awareness on sustainable development. In this event, we invited the lecturers who have participated in the "Excellence in Teaching Sustainability Award"— an event previously organized by the CTCI Education Foundation and the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy— to share their reflections and experiences on the practice of teaching projects. The lecturers invited include Deputy CEO of Pingtung University of Science and Technology Herlin Chien, Associate Professor of National Taichung University of Science and Technology Shin-Jia Ho, and Assistant Professor of Fo Guang University Hung-Turn Chou. The session was introduced and moderated by Professor of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology Tsai Chi Kuo. In addition, the Honorary Professor Pen-Chi Chiang of National Taiwan University was invited to do a book talk. Professor Shin-Cheng Yeh of National Taiwan Normal University and Distinguished Professor Wen-Cheng Liu and PhD. Po-Chun Huang of National United University, who both used the book to offer the course, came to share their experience in teaching and course design. The event closed off with an interactive and highly popular seminar, moderated by the Distinguished Professor Yu-Pin Lin of National Taiwan University. Through this event, we look forward to inspiring more teachers to integrate SDGs into their courses, enrooting the concept of sustainable education, and working together to achieve sustainable development.
