Can you briefly tell us about yourself?

My name is Netravati Gundalli. I am from India. I have completed my Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. I joined CTCI in October 2018 and I am passionate about my work at CTCI. I am currently assigned to Van Phong Thermal Power Plant project.

What made you join CTCI?

Every year CTCI Foundation sponsors an event for foreign students under the banner “Enterprise Visit for International Graduate Students”. During my final semester of Post-Graduation (M.Sc.), I attended the above-mentioned event where CTCI personnel presented a brief seminar for foreign students explaining the organization structure, core strengths and work culture about CTCI. Being a first-year postgraduate student, I was very impressed by the significant strengths and footprint of CTCI in the EPC world. At the end of the seminar, I made up my mind to kick-start and shape my career with CTCI. However, I was slightly hesitant to apply, thinking whether I would be shortlisted. Finally, I submitted my application and got selected as an electrical engineer. I felt like I have achieved my first step towards a successful career.

Could you give us some examples of the foreign culture and people that impress you during your stay (when being relocated)?

Being a girl who was brought up in a very conservative culture in India, I was very scared to step out alone for higher education in Taiwan. I had many questions in mind about the Taiwanese culture, lifestyle, people’s attitude towards foreigners. However, I was greeted well when came to Taiwan. During my initial months, my Professor Mr. Cheng-Chien Kuo supported me a lot. He was like my guide, mentor, friend who helped me professionally in studies and project work, and also personally for overcoming hurdles I faced due to communication problems. Within a few months, I got accustomed to the Taiwanese culture and food. The Taiwanese people are very good in nature, always willing to help. Taiwanese friends not only accepted me as their friends but also made me feel like I am in my own country. It was a very good feeling that I was treated so well in Taiwan despite being a foreigner.

How do you get rid of work stress?

Working at CTCI is a joyous experience. However, work responsibility comes with work stress. To overcome stress at work, I often go out on weekends. Especially, hanging out with friends relieves mental stress and brings so much positive energy. Public transportation is very easy and convenient for traveling in Taiwan. All the places are well connected by MRT and Taipei Bus stations. Taiwan is famous for hiking, cycling, adventurous places, and scenic beauty. I have also visited the Fulong Sand Art Festival, Fo Guang Buddha Museum. I also enjoyed snorkeling experience of a lifetime at the Dragon’s Cave located at Long Dong Beach with my colleagues and friends. After a day of snorkeling, we visited the Jiufen old street night market for shopping. Other places I have visited include the famous South Bay beach and Baishwan beach in Kenting. To relieve stress, I regularly visit the Xindian riverside park. The peaceful ambiance of the riverside park calms and soothes your mind and soul.

Could you share some interesting experience you had when working in CTCI?

When I joined, everything was a new experience for me. My seniors in the department gave me a warm welcome. I was very overwhelmed by the generous gesture of my seniors and colleagues. Currently, I am learning various activities executed during a project cycle. Every day comes with a new challenge and requires courage to face it. I hope to sail through all the challenges thrown at me. I would like to thank my colleagues, mentors, and seniors who directly or indirectly guided me, and hope to get their continued support in the future, too.
