ESG Moment: First-of-Its-Kind Sustainable Action in the Engineering Industry

As a group of companies committed to global sustainability with its core competencies, CTCI calls on its employees to apply the concept of "Total Participation CSR Excellence Practice and ESG Implementation" at work to create a sustainable and happy work environment. In 2020, CTCI became the first company in the engineering industry to launch a sustainable action called "CSR Moment." All employees are requested to choose a slide from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) PowerPoint database, and talk about an issue related to CSR for three to five minutes at the start of meetings, as a way for sustainable actions to become part of work and everyday life.

To enrich the CSR Moment database, as well as promote company-wide engagement in sustainability through "iEPC, green engineering, smart plant, and circular economy"—our four competencies— CTCI’s Group Shared Services partnered with CTCI Education Foundation to organize the CSR Moment competition. By making English and Chinese PowerPoint slides, employees are encouraged to share the relevance, insights, and results of their own work in relation to the group's CSR promotion. In 2022, “CSR Moment” is renamed “ESG Moment” to convey CTCI’s emphasis on environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) practices. 

The first CSR Moment competition was held in 2020. Experts and scholars from the field of sustainable development served as judges. Employee participation was high. In the end, 55 winning works were chosen from 189 submissions. The second competition, held in 2021, took a twist. Instead of requiring single-page slide submissions, the second competition required presentations to include gif files or mp4 videos, as a way of improving staff’s video production capabilities. The event, renamed CSR Moment 2.0, symbolizes improvements in professional knowledge and skills. We hope that by joining the competition, employees could improve their own professional abilities.

In 2021, 60 employees submitted their works to CSR Moment 2.0 competition. Originally, 22 winning works were planned to be selected, but due to the incredible quality of the submissions, four outstanding works and 20 excellent works were selected, totaling 24 winning works. Each winner not only saw their winning works saved in the ESG Moment database, but was also given a cash prize.

In the two years since the launch of the event, it has effectively improved corporate sustainability concepts in the minds of all employees and unleashed their creativity. CTCI and CTCI Education Foundation will continue to organize the event to provide employees with a valuable learning space, improve professional knowledge to meet international standards, develop a strong understanding of corporate sustainability, and maximize engineering impact.
