Amplifying Sustainability Impact by Sparking Resonance Among Stakeholders

— Joanne Ho, CTCI Group Chief Sustainability Officer
As an EPC Group with ESG vision to become a “Guardian of Sustainable Earth,” CTCI has for many years leveraged its core engineering expertise to drive sustainable development. Joining forces with its clients, supply chain partners, and 8,000 global employees, CTCI has not only taken part in green engineering projects that balance financial profits and environmental needs, but has also actively amplified its sustainable impact, extending its reach to communities and the environment to construct a comprehensive sustainability value chain.

At this year’s SDG Asia exhibition, CTCI’s booth featured the theme of "Sustainable Resonance," which utilized a layered honeycomb structure paired with visual language of circular diffusion to symbolize CTCI’s sustainability philosophy: creating a ripple effect that "resonates" through its supply chain and society, ultimately connecting the strength of the entire value chain. In the same spirit, in this article I’d like to share CTCI’s sustainability milestones and our vision for the future.

Strengthening Core Competitiveness through Sustainability for Collective Prosperity

In 2025, CTCI adopted a strategic "inside-out, point-to-surface" approach. Starting with organizational cultural innovation, we have improved our core engineering competitiveness while fostering shared success with stakeholders. Our outstanding performance has not only earned prestigious international recognition, including continued inclusion in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Emerging Markets Index, but also received the best score in the global construction & engineering industry, with the top 1% ranking of the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook.

1.Internal Innovation: Embedding Sustainability into the Corporate DNA
The journey of sustainable transformation began with raising awareness across the entire Group. In 2025, CTCI upgraded its existing "ESG Moment" (a practice started in 2019 where ESG topics are shared before the start of every formal meeting) into the "ESG × AI Moment" by including artificial intelligence elements. This dual-driver approach injects new momentum into our sustainability practices. Furthermore, we launched our first "Sustainability Literacy Survey," which saw voluntary participation from 4,136 colleagues. Covering 12 core topics, including net zero and corporate governance, the survey provides an empirical foundation for our sustainability policies through scientific data.

Additionally, we continue to reinforce consensus through concrete actions, such as the "CTCI POWER GO" Environmental Month initiative, the bi-weekly "Veggie Day" green living program, and the annual "CTCI Group ESG Award." Through these review and reward mechanisms, sustainability has become an internalized habit and a daily driver for our workforce.

2.Partnering with Clients for Win-Win Green Engineering
For CTCI, sustainable development and the refinement of our core business are mutually reinforcing. We have a long tradition of collaborating with clients and supply chain partners to deliver green engineering across three dimensions: green technology, green contracting, and green investment.

In terms of green technology, through continuous R&D in carbon reduction, CTCI has accumulated over 200 energy-saving solutions currently applied in project execution. In terms of green contracting, the volume of environmentally beneficial projects continues to grow. CTCI’s backlog for green and low-carbon engineering surged from NT$43.8 billion in 2015 to NT$373.6 billion as of October 2025, reflecting the robust market demand. And in terms of green investment, our participation in green investments via BOT and BTO models demonstrates our ability to drive sustainable transformation through engineering excellence.

Regarding our carbon reduction commitments, CTCI’s targets have been verified by the SBTi. In 2024, our actual carbon emissions reduction reached 16.8%, exceeding our annual goal of 10.4%. To date, we have achieved a 52% reduction in carbon emissions at service sites and a 42% reduction at fabrication/production sites in Taiwan, thus earning the "Gold Level" net zero label from the Taiwan Alliance for Net Zero Emissions. We also implemented an internal carbon pricing of US$100 per ton CO₂e that aims to integrate carbon costs into business decisions to drive decarbonization through market mechanisms. This advances our vision of achieving net zero emissions for all offices by 2030 and all global production sites by 2050.

3.Synergizing the Supply Chain for Industry-wide Decarbonization
To expand our impact, CTCI established its Supplier Alliance for Net Zero Emissions in 2023. Currently, 265 suppliers have joined and signed letter of commitment on net zero emissions, and we have assisted 229 vendors in completing their greenhouse gas inventories. Through training, workshops, and onsite audits, CTCI provides tiered guidance for suppliers of various scales. By hosting regular supplier meetings and tracking results, we transform sustainability from an individual corporate responsibility into a collective goal for the entire industrial ecosystem.

4.Promoting Social Prosperity and a Better Living Environment
The ultimate goal of sustainability is to create a better society. CTCI deeply cultivates a diversity, equity, and inclusion culture. Beyond employing individuals regardless of gender, age, nationality, or religion, we provide benefits that exceed regulatory requirements, including flexible working hours, health seminars, employee assistance programs, and employee stock ownership/bonus shares. In 2025, the company introduced "CTCI Wellbeing Care Leave" to provide colleagues with greater flexibility for family needs.

In terms of social responsibility, CTCI is actively involved in disaster recovery. This year, in support of the government’s recovery efforts across the Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan region, CTCI committed a multi-million budget and professional teams to help residents rebuild their homes, demonstrating our commitment as a responsible corporate citizen.

Spotting Trends, Leading the Future

Globally, the accelerated pursuit for sustainability is shifting from commitment to implementation. From breakthroughs in forward-looking technologies such as hydrogen and AI to the rise of supply chain resilience, the circular economy, and biotechnology, these trends are not only driving a low-carbon economy but also presenting immense growth opportunities for the engineering industry.

Seizing this pivotal moment, CTCI will continue to leverage its engineering expertise. Through innovative R&D in green and intelligent technologies, we will lead the industry toward a path that is smart, low-carbon, and resilient—creating a more sustainable and innovative future as we march toward our vision: a "Guardian of Sustainable Earth."
