Being Bold for Growth Leads to Excellence

Michael Yang, CTCI Group Vice Chairman & CEO of Group Engineering Business

Human civilization is driven by technological innovations, while business thinking progresses with time. When we look back at the successes and failures, or the upturns and downturns of top-notch companies over the years, it is evident that only those who pay close attention to the current trend and seek progress through active transformation can grow their businesses sustainably and reach excellence. For more than 40 years since its founding, CTCI pays attention to the trends in global industries and make business adjustments accordingly. This is why CTCI remains No.1 engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) group in Taiwan and among the top 100 worldwide. In response to future challenges and with an aim to build new legacies, CTCI will take an even more proactive approach in business expansion and maneuver. The company will strengthen new sector development, improve R&D in smart technologies, and enhance health, safety, and environment (HSE) management. That way, CTCI can become even more competitive, enjoy business successes, and reach yet another pinnacle.

Get Ahead of the Game by Knowing the Trend and Making Preparations

Starting out from the hydrocarbon operations in the early days, CTCI went on to diversify its businesses by including power, industrial, and transportation operations. The approach CTCI takes towards diversification is one that stresses on stable growth by consolidating existing business before planning for new fields. This allows the company to operate sustainably. The current backlog exceeding 300 billion TWD is expected to fuel future revenue growth.

Last year, CTCI established Advanced Technology Facilities Business Operations in view of the massive demand from the high tech sector. We were able to quickly tap into the sector and achieved tremendous results, including:
•Signed contracts with a leading Taiwanese semiconductor company and its suppliers to build fabs in Arizona, USA.
•Signed a contract to build Taiwan’s first-ever mega battery manufacturing plant, a move towards energy storage business.
•Signed a contract to build DRAM manufacturing plant for a global leading firm, a move towards the memory business.

CTCI also saw some achievements in green, low-carbon energy business expansions, in line with global trend for “net zero carbon emissions.” Achievements include:
•Offshore wind energy, solar power, and gas-fired power plant businesses continue to grow.
•Chungli Water Resources Recycling Center broke ground in late 2021.
•Kaohsiung Linhai Water Resources Center slated to begin operations this quarter.
•Signed a contract to build Taoyuan North Water Resources Reuse Center.

These green engineering track record reveal CTCI’s success in seizing carbon-reduction business opportunities. They also show CTCI’s resolve to use its engineering expertise and join forces with industry counterparts to contribute to global sustainability.

Increase Smart Applications to Gain a Digital Upper Hand

CTCI is actively introducing new technologies and upgrading its skills. Digital twin, intelligent EPC, and iManagement platform are currently being researched and developed within the company, with an aim to help CTCI gain an upper hand in the digital world.

1.Digital twin
Digital twin is a technology that integrates the real world with virtual world by constructing a virtual plant along with the brick-and-mortar plant. CTCI uses its proprietary “Intelligent EPC” platform to collect comprehensive data across engineering (E), procurement (P), and construction (C) stages. Combined with digital tech, the platform can help improve project efficacy. Digital plant data is handed along with brick-and-mortar plant to the owner, a process called digital handover. After handover, an added value service called digital operation and maintenance (O&M) kick in, thus completing the target of digitalized full lifecycle of engineering project. Smart and digital applications are now being used extensively across CTCI projects and show significant benefits in that they help increase implementation efficiency, reduce errors, and save costs. Digital management also give owners an upper hand because O&M now becomes even more straightforward and convenient.

2.iManagement platform
iManagement platform is smart thinking applied to routine tasks. Its purpose is to free human from cumbersome, man-hour intensive, and repetitive tasks (such as human resources, cost management, accounting and finance, logistical support, etc.) through digital means. That way, time can be better spent on more creative and valuable tasks.

The technological applications above allow CTCI to carry out projects worldwide with more accuracy and efficiency. Logistical matters and management becomes easier and faces fewer obstructions. CTCI becomes more powerful as an organization!

A Reliable Team that Places Safety as Top Priority

At CTCI, expertise means far beyond active diversification of businesses to reach exceptional results. It also means our uncompromising commitment to “safety” as top priority.

A world-class EPC company such as CTCI would inevitably face ever more complex projects as it grows, bringing higher potential risks at work sites. Any miscalculation may lead to major losses. HSE activities are constantly held at CTCI offices and work sites to raise safety awareness and improve hygiene. Managers are required to step up HSE inspections at work sites and ensure staff complies with standard operating procedures. Managers also need to hold work site safety meetings in a timely fashion whenever safety concern arises. They need to think and propose improvement measures, act promptly and correct mistakes, so as to effectively reduce work injuries.

In addition, CTCI continues to develop digital safety management tools that aid work site oversight. Tools such as “automatic detection and reporting system” allow CTCI to track even the slightest change at project sites and help identify safety hazards to prevent the worst outcome. With digital technologies, CTCI is protecting the health and safety of its staff and partners.

Speaking of innovation, perseverance is what it takes to help a team overcome impact from change. Innovation helps forge people’s power and ignite the team’s endless potential. With a vision to become “the most reliable global engineering services provider,” CTCI aims for excellence while adhering to the integrity principle. On the way to sustainable growth, the company will utilize technology to enhance its capabilities, and be bold to be different. Such is the real meaning of CTCI’s corporate culture “professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and innovation”! We will remain bold for growth, bring real contribution to global engineering projects, fulfill our duty as corporate citizen, make an impact through sustainable engineering, and march towards success.
