CTCI Acquires Ho-Ping Power Plant No.2 AQCS Retrofit EPC Project, Improving Air Quality with Green Engineering Technologies

CTCI, Taiwan's largest EPC contractor, has long been committed to utilize green engineering technologies to EPC project executions at Taiwan and abroad, striving for continual improvement in our environment. Its efforts have recently been reaffirmed with the contract award of Ho-Ping Power Plant No.2 Air Quality Control Systems (AQCS) Retrofit EPC Project. The project is scheduled to be completed in Q2 of 2021, and will help to upgrade air pollution prevention efficiency for the existing power plant. Upon project completion, the air quality in Hualien area will be improved as the air quality of Ho-Ping Power Plant being raised.

Located in Hualien, Ho-Ping Power Plant is an independent power producer (IPP) and the largest power plant in eastern Taiwan with annual power generation up to 1,320MW, combining two sets of coal-fired supercritical units with 660MW capacity each. CTCI once provided engineering and construction service of Ho-Ping Power Plant back in 1999, which helped stabilize the power supply in Taiwan. With Ho-Ping Power Plant's continuous investment in retrofits of existing air quality control systems, CTCI has been selected as the contractor for related service, beating strong competitors in the bid evaluation process for having superior air pollution control technologies and track records in power plants.

The engineering of the project starts from January 2020. To ensure the normal operation of the power plant, the retrofit work will be conducted during the annual overhaul of No.2 Unit. Major project scope includes new Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP), new Non-leakage Gas Gas Heater (MGGH) system, system upgrade/revamping of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) and Induced Draft Fan (ID Fan) to reduce Sulfur Oxides (SOx), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and Total Suspended Particulates (TSP). Once all are in place, the figures of air pollution emissions will be lower than EPA's strict standards, and the overall air pollution performance of the plant will be considerably enhanced.

CTCI has a strong track record in power plant projects with service scope encompassing engineering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC), completing major power plant project worldwide, from Taiwan, China, Thailand, the Philippines, to the US. It has extended services to environmental engineering, air pollution control, dedicated to lowering environmental impact arising from industrial development. With the brand spirit of being the “Most Reliable,” CTCI envisions to apply green engineering and sustainable principles across our work to strike a balance between economic growth and environment.
