Forty Years of Standing Strong & Conquering the World

Group Chairman John T. Yu
After forty years of dedicated effort, CTCI has grown from a small-scale local engineering company to the best in Taiwan, as well as taking its place among the top 100 international EPC contractors throughout the world. Besides achieving annual business growth, our sustainable corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance has also received widespread positive recognition from both domestic and overseas ratings agencies. These results are the fruits of our corporate culture of "Professionalism, Integrity, Teamwork, and Innovation," as well as the realization of our brand spirit of being "the Most Reliable." These philosophies have allowed CTCI to continuously receive recognition and acknowledgement from numerous renowned domestic and international companies, acknowledging us as "the Most Reliable Global Engineering Services Provider" and allowing us to continue marching forward and conquering the entire world during global economic transitions.
Forty Years and Going Strong: Achieving Stellar Engineering Performance
2019 marks CTCI's 40th anniversary. As the ancient proverb says, "at forty, we have no delusions." Forty is a time when we clearly see our direction, ambitions, vitality, and motivation. This is true for the current CTCI, and we persist in moving toward our objective at a firm pace. Looking back on the challenges we have faced over the years, CTCI has come a long way from a purely engineering design-oriented Taiwanese company to become a worldwide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company through continuous breakthroughs and by challenging our limits. We have expanded our business lines to infrastructure and resource cycling from petrochemicals, as well as expanding our reach from construction contracting to intelligent solutions and resource cycling business. We have accomplished countless difficult engineering projects throughout the world, and have achieved considerable success. On the eve of our 40th anniversary, let's look at our performance in 2018. Our newly signed contracts have amounted to NT$101.7 billion and backlog of contracts has also achieved NT$207.98 billion. Both figures have reached new historical heights. In terms of business expansion, we have also achieved many new milestones in various respects. This include our first MMTA MEG Project with modularization engineering in the US by cooperating with the US-based McDermott from ExxonMobil, the world’s largest oil company, the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminals contract with value up to US$ 1 billion from PTT Group in Thailand by forming a joint venture with the Italy-based SAIPEM, the first cooperation with Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. for CPC Kuantang LNG Receiving Terminal contract, the first contract with Adani Group (the fifth largest enterprise in India) for a LNG Receiving Terminal Regasification Project, the first project from JG Summit Petrochemical Corporation of the Philippines, the first EVA Project in Gulei, China with a contract value up to ten billion NTD, the SDP Array Cleanroom Project at a G10.5 Display Eco-industrial Park, intelligent information system service for international airport, and a coal handling system improvement project. These results are of monumental significance for CTCI. In particular, the most exciting part about these top-ranking records is that many of these projects are international engineering projects, demonstrating CTCI's reliability to international clients. This also signifies that our direction of rooting in Taiwan and expanding globally is accurate; and we will continuously grow and develop in the current intensively competitive international market.
Fostering a Universal CSR Mindset to Achieve a Sustainable CTCI
Under our business expansion efforts, CTCI has grown to be an international engineering group that owns over 40 affiliated companies in 15 countries throughout the world. To integrate the resources from each global company and realize synergistic effects to better respond to international market competition, CTCI's group organization has placed the Executive Committee as the highest decision-making unit since 2016. All domestic and foreign companies are classified as either Group Engineering Business (GEB), Group Resource Cycling Business (GRCB), or Group Intelligent Solutions Business (GISB) based on the nature of their business; and the Group Shared Services (GSS) will provide overall back-end management and services. CTCI continues to further differentiate ourselves from competitors through the introduction, application, and execution of professionalism, innovative mindsets, and new technologies. Currently, the three business groups have all reaped highly successful results and market shares. In particular, the GEB division has polished the CTCI brand throughout the world through stellar performance, making CTCI equal to our international partners and becoming a global enterprise on par with world-class engineering companies from Europe, the US, Japan, and Korea. For GRCB, since we launched the "ECOVE" brand in 2017, it has become the second renowned CTCI brand in the global market. It is also the best brand in Taiwan for incineration (Energy-from-Waste), waste management and resource cycling with its earnings per share exceeding NT$10 for consecutive years. On the other hand, the GISB division pioneers the Taiwanese market in smart solutions. We have demonstrated fruitful results in fields such as smart manufacturing, smart transportation, smart buildings, and smart cities. This highly promising business continues to show endless possibilities and is likely to become the Group's third-largest brand. Our outstanding business achievements have allowed CTCI to attain even greater capacity to give back to society and fulfill CSR objectives on top of sustainable business management. To CTCI, CSR is more than simply a matter of donating toward charitable causes. We transition CSR to our business's core competitiveness and strive to ingrain CSR into our corporate DNA. To encourage all 7,400 employees throughout the Group to realize their influence and to be proud of how much their work has contributed to the planet and to their countries, we foster a CSR-oriented mind-set in everyone in carrying out our major core professional engineering techniques: iPEC, smart plants, circular economy, and green engineering. Highly effective and economical measures are implemented from a project life cycle perspective throughout the site-building process, starting from engineering design, procurement, construction and commissioning, to selection of materials and equipment, and even operations and maintenance from clients upon project completion. At the same time, we collaborate with business partners to fulfill green and environmentally-friendly measures in the hopes of realizing the greatest influence and exerting our corporate social responsibility in practice. In recent years, our sustainable management performance in three aspects--CSR governance, environmental protection, and social participation--have also received positive recognition from numerous domestic and overseas rating institutions. For instance, CTCI is the only company in Taiwan to have been nominated as a constituent stock in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for four consecutive years. Moreover, we have once again won the highest honor of "The Most Prestigious Sustainability Awards-Top Ten Domestic Corporate" from the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA), was nominated as a constituent stock by Taiwan Sustainability Index (TWSI), and received many awards including the Commonwealth magazine "Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award." In addition, our brand has been named one of the Global 100 by REBRAND 100® Global Awards, placing us among renowned global enterprises including Siemens, HP, and ABB. Besides achieving global stature, it also helps the brand value of Taiwanese enterprises to gain more visibility.
Taking on the World & Creating Glory
Nowadays, the orange logo of CTCI is visible in construction fields throughout Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas, conveying our passion and confidence for engineering services to the world. For us, CTCI will be wherever the clients may be. For instance, having successfully excavated shale gas, the United States is a key focus for our future development. CTCI is actively entering the US market and has successfully executed projects including Formosa Plastics' USA production facility as well as the front-end engineering design of the petrochemical investment from the joint venture of Exxon Mobil and Saudi Basic Industry Corporation. This growing market represents endless business opportunities. To differentiate CTCI from competitors and to successfully cultivate the market, we have developed a unique competitive team of "Taipei + USA." and solidifies CTCI's business blueprints in the American market. In addition to the United States, the Middle East still remains a highly competitive market for international engineering companies. CTCI has built numerous track records in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman. Currently, we are also participating in bids for large-scale petroleum refinery plant projects in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi based on our strengths and reputation. CTCI's business blueprints are expected to grow and encompass all six nations of the GCC. Furthermore, we have also planned to expand toward Africa. Starting from North Africa, we will expand toward this high-potential market. In response to CTCI's globalization process, we have already acquired the capacity to receive engineering projects worth US$2 billion in the international engineering market. Domestic and overseas projects each currently account for 50% of our business, and we anticipate to join the Three Billion Club in the future. Due to the size constraints of the domestic engineering market, our overseas business needs to grow upwards to satisfy the Group's developmental needs. In preparation for our global success, we have actively planned manpower allocations and accelerated global talent cultivation. Additionally, we have also fostered the interdisciplinary and multinational management competencies in our staff as well as expanding their global perspective through job rotations and expatriate experience. After forty years and going strong, and getting ready to conquer the world, CTCI wishes to be more than just the No. 1 brand in Taiwan. We also want the world to see CTCI as the Most Reliable engineering service brand. Backed by a quality corporate culture and excellent professional talent, we believe that as long as everyone throughout the Group can practice our corporate culture at every level of the work process, work toward the same objective and direction, and realize the philosophy of "I am CTCI. I am Reliable;" then we can surely continue to march toward our vision of being "the Most Reliable Global Engineering Services Provider" and create the next four decades of brilliance.
