Grasping the Trends and Looking to the Future
CTCI, the Most Reliable

▲ Group Chairman John T. Yu

In response to the current global trends and the industry demands, CTCI Group launched an initiative for brand transformation in order to enhance competitiveness and open up new horizons. In June 2016, we unveiled a brand-new global brand by holding up "Most Reliable" as the brand spirit and "Discover Reliable" as our slogan, hoping to actively market our brand as "The Most Reliable Global Engineering Services Provider" through group uniformity and single brand identity. To enhance organizational synergy and team strength, we later carried out reorganization, dividing the subsidiaries into three business groups, Group Engineering Business, Group Intelligent Solutions Business, Group Resource Cycling Business, and a Group Shared Services in charge of logistics management and services. We expect of ourselves to develop smart manufacturing with refined EPC contract work and stand taller on the world stage by enhancing our sustainable green competitiveness.

Innovative Engineering: Refined EPC Contract Work

With nearly forty years of experience in the engineering industry, CTCI Group is the only company in Taiwan capable of carrying out lump sum contract work encompassing engineering design, procurement, manufacturing, construction, to commissioning. CTCI Group is also one of the few Taiwan-based companies capable of generating profits on a global basis. We have executed highly complicated international lump sum contract work with miscellaneous interfaces and implemented those projects with the international division of labor. Engineering integration is the core capability that we are most proud of. However, we still face a great deal of challenges and obstacles when meeting clients’ demands on the market.

Our business groups, therefore, have to make use of the latest technologies to refine our EPC services. Due to the fact that engineering design is a process that involves a series of interconnected changes and a slight change will affect everything else, we are working on an Intelligent EPC (iEPC) Automation System to connect all the independent engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning systems together. All the changes in the engineering design are updated immediately and automatically in the procurement and construction systems, which helps achieve just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing. For engineering design, we will increasingly use robots to carry out major and a great deal of work. For procurement, we plan to establish a fast, robust and cost-effective system. For construction, we aim to carry out intelligent manufacturing and smart installation of modules. For project management, we provide agile and micro-segmented information control and construct a smart application platform.

Additionally, we analyze the process differences and advantages based on our experiences of plant construction including the plant layout and flow, the execution strategies, the schedule planning and the cost benefits, making the data the references to our future project quotations and execution. In addition, the micro-segmented management of projects, the maximization of the EPC process and the Lessons Learned (L&L) mechanism are also integrated as a whole to enhance our capacities through comprehensive examinations and thorough improvements.

Value-Added Intelligence: Developing Smart Engineering

From the appearances of cloud computing and big data, virtual reality, IoT to artificial intelligence, technology in the 21st century is fast developing with each passing day. To cope with the rapid changes on the market and the insufficient labor supplies due to low birth rates, countries around the world have been striving to develop intelligent manufacturing and build smart plants for the purpose of enhancing their global competitiveness in the era of Industry 4.0.

In light of such global trends, the Group Intelligent Solutions Business is focusing on applying smart technologies to our EPC services and developing intelligent value-added services to clients both at home and abroad through the integration and sharing of resources from all subsidiaries. It is our hope that, with the joint efforts of Group Intelligent Business, we will be able to apply Virtual Reatlity/ Augmented Reality (VR/AR) integration technology to 3D Model Reviw, and also build a virtual plant to simulate future operational needs. We believe that this will greatly support on-site construction and enhance the quality of engineering. We will also employ robots to carry out on-site tasks such as welding, assembly, inspection, handling, paint spraying of prefab plants, and steel installation. We are convinced that only by providing our clients cost-effective EPC solutions and higher additional values can we gain advantages in such a competitive market.

Furthermore, we will continue to pay attention to the issues concerning smart cities, long-term care, energy storage, carbon trading, the sharing economy and the circular economy and seek potential business opportunities to expand our services.

Resource Cycling: Enhancing the Sustainable Green Competitiveness

The world has been discussing the impacts of resource depletion, global warming and climate change over the past few years. Resource preservation and environmental protection have become pressing issues for all countries on Earth. Unanimously adopted by nearly 200 countries around the world, Paris Agreement is a global effort towards carbon reduction. To pass the “Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Management Act” in the near future, Taiwan is also promoting the circular economy to enhance energy efficiency and encourage the use of renewable energy and material recycling. In light of the increasing awareness of energy saving and the circular economy, we believe that there are unlimited business opportunities in the market of resource cycling.

Regarding the preparation for the industry of global resource cycling, CTCI Group has invested in the management and operation of incineration and energy recovery, water and wastewater treatment and regeneration, air pollution control, waste clean-up and resource recovery and renewable energy. In addition to concentrating on incineration and waste management and expand into the area of solar photovoltaic technology, our Group Resource Cycling Business will also open up the business in the circular economy, including waste recovery. Regarding market expansion, in addition to continuing investing in Taiwan and China, we will also extend our business to emerging ASEAN countries, such as Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, and India.

For technology refinement and integration, we will evaluate the application of AI and new technologies on incineration and waste management to enhance operation safety and efficacy. We will also develop the technical capacity in running a biomass power plant by executing technical service projects. In terms of photovoltaic, we are expected to increase operational efficiency through upgrades of industrial technology and strengthen the management performance of operation and maintenance through an integral smart monitoring system. As for the circular economy, we will integrate and commercialize application technologies to increase the performance of circulation.

CTCI Group, the Most Reliable

In this competitive industry that is surrounded by hungry and ruthless competitors, we must not only upgrade ourselves technically but to precisely grasp future trends. CTCI Group is currently undertaking various construction tasks in the Middle East, the Southeast Asia, and the US, including several bids worth over USD 1 billion, and is also planning to enter the market of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in collaboration with Chinese enterprises along with the "One Belt, One Road" initiative. With the revival of the emerging markets, we will continue to watch for the business opportunities regarding the constructions of power plants, transport infrastructure, and the energy markets.

The successful extractions of shale gas in the US, however, have changed the world energy map, making the US replace the oil producing countries as the most sought-after region for building petrochemical plants. Entering the US market two years ago, we were commissioned to take on the detailed design of the LDPE plant and the EO/EG plant invested by Formosa Plastics Group. Our next goal is to root and grow in the US, by actions including hiring an American President into our management team to help form a winning combination between Taiwan and the US to develop the US market so that we may continue expanding the global perspective of CTCI Group.

Looking to the future, we will strive to provide faster, better and more competitive comprehensive services to meet our clients' needs and expectations by adhering to "the most reliable" brand spirit. CTCI Group is undoubtedly going to reach another peak!
